Sugar Cookie Ingredients

  • Butter: Use unsalted butter that's just soft enough to be pliable, but not warm enough to be greasy. Thirty minutes is usually enough counter time to soften butter. If you want to soften butter sooen, cut it into small pieces and let it stand for just 15 minutes. Try to avoid to using the microwave, where it’s more likely to get too soft.
  • Sugar: Simply use granulated sugar.
  • Eggs: Use cold large egg.
  • Vanilla extract: For the best flavor, use teaspoon real vanilla extract instead of imitation vanilla.
  • Flour: Use all-purpose flour. Use a large spoon to gently scoop into a measuring cup, then level off with the flat side of a butter knife or spatula.
  • Salt: Use regular table salt.

How to Make Sugar Cookies

  • 200 g butter
  • 160 g sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 ts vanilla extract
  • 400 g flour
  • 1/ ts salt

Dough mixing

  1. In your mixing bowl combine butter with granulated sugar. Mix with the paddle attachment on low speed for a minute and turn on speed 3-4 until combined into a creamy, fluffy mixture. It usually takes about 3-5 minutes. 
  2. Once butter and sugar is creamed, add in vanilla and egg. Mix them on speen 2-3 until combined. If egg is not combined well, turn on high speed for 10-15 seconds. Be ensure do not over-mix with high speed. 
  3. Turn your mixer is on low lever and add flour slowly. Pour in half, left it all combine in the mixer and then add the remaining flour. 
  4. Dough is ready when it pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
  5. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour. This firms up the butter in the dough and helps prevent the cookies from spreading as they bake.

Dough rolling

  1. Remove the dough from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes. In the meantine turn on the oven 170 °C (338°F) prepare your baking sheets, and gather your MOOS3D cookie cutters. 
  2. Slightly dust your countertop and rolling pin with flour to prevent the dough from sticking. Roll the dough into a 6mm (1/4 inch) thickness. Dip your cookie cutter into flour and cut out shapes. Use a thin spatula to transfer the cutouts to the oven tray, spacing them at least 2-3 cm (1 inch) apart.

Baking

  1. Bake for 10 minutes at 170 °C (338°F). 
  2. If you have tray of cookies waiting to bake, pop them in the fridge as they wait their turn. Or prepare the dough before bake. 
  3. Always make sure to cool down your cookie sheet before add your next batch.
